This posting includes pictures from when we visited my Grandma, and as you can see it didn't take long for Aubrie to warm up to her Great Grandma. I also posted some pictures from this last weekend when Amy, Joel, and Aubrie went back to Fullerton. Joel's parents raise chickens, and there was a new batch of baby chicks, so Aubrie took advantage of an opportunity to pet one. And finally, the last few pictures were taken by Nate's cell phone when we were in Grand Island visiting my friends from college, Jack and Kelly. They have two sweet little boys, Jackson and Isaac. So cute!!! Another great weekend to end the month of April!

Two significant events have happened this week regarding the growth and development of our little Aubrie. The first is that she is walking! (obvious from the pics, I know) She was experimenting with taking a few steps on her own on Sunday, and now she almost has it mastered. The other new happening is that Aubrie is now formula-free. For those of you who don’t know, Aubrie was born with MSPI (Milk Soy Protein Intolerance), which is a condition where an infant cannot digest the proteins found in milk and soy foods. It was a difficult first few weeks after she was born due to this condition, since no one was aware that she had it. Some symptoms of MSPI are continuous crying for several hours, retching, projectile vomiting, and blood in stools from inflammation in the digestive tract. Infants also may refuse feedings, or conversely want to eat all the time due to feeling temporarily better just after a feeding. MSPI is even more severe than colic. When she was diagnosed, the doctor gave strict orders to only feed her formula called Alimentum. Currently there is no cure for MSPI, but this formula is made with pre-digested proteins, so it eased Aubrie’s discomfort. The down-side of this formula is that it’s very expensive. This condition affected Aubrie’s whole diet plan as she got older. Normally when starting a baby on solid foods, you’d begin with cereal, but a baby with MSPI needs to start with meat instead. Around the age of 6 months, Aubrie slowly transitioned to soy formula, which is not as expensive as Alimentum but still is a pretty penny. In January, she was slowly introduced to dairy foods, and now she has just completed the final transition to milk! This past year has been a little stressful for Joel and Amy, but I am so proud and impressed with the way they handled it. Amy did an incredible job with the transitions, and monitoring her condition closely. Aubrie is very lucky to have such awesome parents!
